Starbucks has partnered with Ocean Conservancy since 2018 because of their shared commitment to reducing waste and mobilizing volunteers to keep our ocean and communities healthy.

Starbucks Corporation is working with Ocean Conservancy to support their global effort towards a plastic-free ocean. As part of Starbucks’ ongoing commitment to reduce waste by 50% by 2030, the company continues to test and learn from programs geared toward reducing single-use cups. In 2018, Starbucks began to phase out the plastic drinking straw from its stores, and in 2020 began market testing a hot cup made with more recyclable and compostable materials as part of the NextGen Cup Challenge. Starbucks is also a member of Ocean Conservancy’s Trash Free Seas Alliance® where they engage in collaborative efforts to reduce ocean plastic pollution.

In August of 2021, we’re excited to partner with Starbucks to celebrate the return of personal reusable cups. From August 3 through August 16, at participating stores in the U.S., each time a customer orders a beverage in store to be served in a clean personal reusable cup, Starbucks will donate $1.00 to Ocean Conservancy, up to one million dollars. The donation will be used by Ocean Conservancy to support its work toward solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it. This offer excludes mobile order and pay and drive-through orders.
