Ocean Conservancy at COP30
COP30 in Belém, Brazil (November 10–21, 2025), the ocean will take center stage as a pillar of global climate action. The ocean is our planet’s first line of defense and greatest source of resilience. It absorbs heat, stores carbon, and powers new frontiers of clean energy. As political ambition wavers and finance lags, the global ocean community is mobilizing a powerful coalition of governments, investors, Indigenous Peoples, scientists, and civil society to transform commitments into action. Building on the momentum from Baku’s “Finance COP,” this year’s climate summit will be where ambition meets implementation in linking finance, policy, and partnerships to accelerate ocean climate action. Ocean Conservancy will be there with a bold, science-driven agenda to ensure the ocean is at the heart of global climate ambition and delivers real solutions for people and the planet.
Our key objectives at COP30 are to champion the ocean as a climate solution by:
- Advancing the Blue NDC Challenge by supporting countries to weave ocean climate solutions into their national climate plans (NDCs).
- Accelerating clean ocean energy by convening the Ocean Renewable Energy Breakthrough Hub with partners as a global platform to drive responsible offshore wind and other ocean renewables that power communities and protect nature.
- Unlocking ocean finance by working to establish a Blue Finance Window within the UNFCCC climate finance architecture to direct major climate funding toward ocean-climate solutions at scale.
- Convening the Friends of Ocean and Climate, a coalition dedicated to bringing ocean-based climate action to the forefront of the UNFCCC and highlighting the crucial role sustainable ocean-climate solutions play in achieving global climate goals.
Through these efforts, Ocean Conservancy aims to make COP30 in Belém the “Ocean Implementation COP”—where finance, policy, and science converge to power a resilient, inclusive, and nature-positive blue future.
