ABOUT THE GLOBAL GHOST GEAR INITIATIVE (GGGI)

The GGGI is a cross-sectoral alliance addressing abandoned, lost and otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) or “ghost gear” worldwide. Through the collective impact of its members, the GGGI aims to mitigate the ecological and economic impacts of ghost gear. The GGGI serves as a global clearinghouse for information on ALDFG; informs specific plans, strategies, and policies to prevent and reduce ALDFG; and catalyzes practical and replicable solutions for on-the-ground and in-the-water removal and prevention of ghost gear. The GGGI also works with governments and multilateral organizations around the world to elevate the issue of ghost gear on the global agenda and inspire international action. Ocean Conservancy assumed the role of GGGI host organization in 2019 and manages the day-to day operations, budget and staff of the GGGI. The GGGI is an integral part of Ocean Conservancy portfolio of initiatives addressing marine debris and sustainable fisheries.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides administrative and project support including management and coordination of GGGI activities and events (virtual and in person), assists with the management of contracts and tracking of budgets, expenses, and invoices including of GGGI membership; supports GGGI membership and program outreach efforts; and provides coordination between the program and the development team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides project, logistical and administrative support for the Director, Global Ghost Gear Initiative and the GGGI Team, including organization and coordination of activities, scheduling appointments and meetings, arranging travel, project management, drafting and editing correspondence, expense reconciliation processes, budget review, processing of invoices; drafting and tracking of contracts; and coordinating with staff and external consultants and partners in the United States and internationally.
  • Carries out project assignments by conducting research, gathering and analyzing information, preparing presentations and other materials for internal and external audiences, and organizing and attending events and meetings as needed.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the GGGI leadership.

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of two years of administrative experience staffing a multi-disciplinary and globally dispersed team.
  • Experience in public policy and with non-profit organizations preferred.
  • A team player who can bring the creativity, energy, discipline, and commitment needed to support our conservation goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated success in supporting a team.
  • Highly collaborative with an appreciation of the benefit of a multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • Personable, passionate, productive, and focused to support accurate and timely analysis, advocacy, products, and positions.
  • A strong performer who is attentive to details but can keep a larger vision in mind, is disciplined in adhering to deadlines and can produce deliverables in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at any given time
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated success in supporting a team.
  • A highly motivated self-starter.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or policy or relevant experience preferred.

COMPENSATION

Ocean Conservancy is committed to equity in its pay practices and posts expected hiring ranges for each of its positions. We are targeting a hiring range of $43,891 – $65,920 with a midpoint of $55,002, which will be commensurate with the candidate’s specialty skills, years of experience, location, and unique background.  We would welcome the opportunity to connect with potential candidates whose salary requirements may be outside of the expected hiring range.
