2023-107 Budget Manager


Ocean Conservancy educates and empowers citizens to take action on behalf of the ocean and works to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges. Together with our partners, we create evidence-based solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it.


The Budget Manager position is responsible for programmatic aspects of internal and external reporting for conservation programs. This position is the primary financial liaison with program staff, and will lead efforts to coordinate alignment across executive, program and development staff related to financial information.


  • Review monthly internal financial statements
  • Research & respond to program staff inquiries regarding internal financial statements
  • Prepare/review journal entries for reclassifications of revenue and expenses related to program financial statements
  • Supervise/Assist Development and Program staff in preparing grant proposal budgets
  • Supervise/Assist Development and Program staff with grant reporting
  • Support integration of complex revenue streams into annualized program budgets during the work planning process
  • Lead coordination across programs and departments related to complex budget planning, execution and reporting
  • Track progress on programs with restricted funds
  • Support the planning, preparation, and review of annual program budgets
  • Assist Development and Program staff with budget re-projections
  • Assist in any ad hoc reporting as assigned
  • Supervise preparation of internal management and Board reporting
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or the equivalent in experience
  • Requires 4 or more years of recent relevant experience in nonprofit budget management, including management of complex revenue streams 
  • Knowledge of Federal compliance requirements
  • Experience with software enabled budgeting a plus
  • Experience working with program staff to translate effort to budget needs in annual work planning
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Strong attention to detail, solid written and oral communication skills, and deadline oriented


Ocean Conservancy is committed to equity in its pay practices and posts expected hiring ranges for each of its positions. Salary minimum is $63,036; salary midpoint is $92,597. The midpoint represents the market rate for a position, and a fully experienced employee may be paid at this level. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s specialty skills, years of experience, location and unique background.  We would welcome the opportunity to connect with potential candidates whose salary requirements may be outside of the expected hiring range.
