Partnerships Manager, Global Ghost Gear Initiative

The GGGI is a cross-sectoral alliance addressing abandoned, lost and otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALFG) or “ghost gear” worldwide. Through the collective impact of its members, the GGGI aims to mitigate the ecological and economic impacts of ghost gear. The GGGI serves as a global clearinghouse for information on ALDFG; informs specific plans, strategies and policies to prevent and reduce ALDFG; and catalyzes practical and replicable solutions for on-the-ground and in-the-water removal and prevention of ghost gear. The GGGI also works with governments and multilateral organizations around the world to elevate the issue of ghost gear on the global agenda and inspire international action. Ocean Conservancy is the host organization  of the GGGI and manages the day-to day operations, budget and staff of the GGGI. The GGGI is an integral part of the Trash Free Seas® program’s portfolio of initiatives addressing marine debris at Ocean Conservancy.


The GGGI Partnerships Manager works closely with the GGGI Director and Associate Director to ensure efficient, effective delivery of the GGGI program as a whole. Specifically, the Partnerships Manager will support the Associate Director and the Corporate Partnerships Team to deliver meaningful engagement with GGGI’s corporate partners. Tasks include supporting due diligence on new partnerships, monitoring and evaluation of existing partnerships, identifying opportunities to deepen and expand partnerships, and support corporates on the formulation and delivery of ghost gear objectives.

The Partnerships Manager will also support the Associate Director to ensure effective coordination with the various GGGI stakeholders, including invoicing; and the delivery of (corporate) knowledge products and implementation of the GGGI Working Group work plans.

The GGGI Partnerships Manager will liaise closely with the rest of the TFS team and the Ocean Conservancy staff more broadly and helps to identify opportunities for collaboration, especially in relation to GGGI corporates; while also scanning for potential conflicts or duplication of work across OC.


  • Serve as the primary point of contact to support corporates in their ghost gear sustainability efforts, track progress against commitments, implementation of the GGGI BPFs and assist in developing ghost gear action plans and corporate policies/initiatives.
  • Support the GGGI Director and Associate Director to execute the GGGI’s multi-year strategy to ensure timely and efficient delivery of GGGI program and project deliverables.
  • Assist the Associate Director in liaising with the GGGI working groups, ensuring the aims, strategy and work streams of all working groups are aligned and work plans are delivered.
  • Assist with development of the GGGI working group work plans in collaboration with the GGGI working group Chairs/Coordinators and GGGI leadership.
  • Assist with invoicing and reporting from GGGI Membership.
  • Assist with writing of grant proposals and reporting on grants; and support project development as required.
  • Assist GGGI leadership with organization and planning of GGGI meetings, special projects, and events including the GGGI Annual Meeting and key conferences and workshops around the world.
  • Represent GGGI at national and international fora as required.
  • Assist with GGGI communications (e.g., website, blogs, and presentations).
  • Handle logistics for special functions and conduct other special projects and activities as assigned.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the GGGI leadership.


  • 3-5 years of experience working in or with the private sector on sustainability and/or environmental policy matters. .
  • Knowledge of the links between environmental impact of ghost gear, seafood sustainability and relevant stakeholders
  • Experience working in a multi-stakeholder environment and ability to manage relationships between stakeholders with often differing points of view.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to manage multiple simultaneous projects and stakeholders, to coordinate concurrent tasks from a variety of staff with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail and reliability.
  • Ability and willingness to operate outside of “normal working hours” as required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%, including internationally.


  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional experience or advanced degree in business sustainability, environmental policy and/or ocean resource management preferred.
