MEDIA ADVISORY: Climate Experts Will Attend Capitol Hill Ocean Week

English Español Français Deutsch Italiano Português русский বঙ্গীয় 中文 日本語

WASHINGTON, DC – June 6-8, 2023, Ocean Conservancy experts will participate in Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW) and host an event on the intersection of the climate and plastic crises.

On Thursday, June 8, Ocean Conservancy will host the event “Don’t be fossil fooled: Plastics impact the ocean and climate.” Plastics already produce 3-4% of greenhouse gas emissions, reduce the climate resilience of the ocean and coastal communities, and could lock in 20% of global oil demand by 2050 – and yet are conspicuously missing from climate policies. This event will discuss the drivers of these joint crises and opportunities to address the climate impacts of plastics while benefiting communities and ocean health.

Experts on climate science, ocean and climate policy and ocean justice will also be in attendance and participating in CHOW. Reporters interested in attending the June 8 panel or speaking with Ocean Conservancy experts should reach out to the contact listed below.
