WHAT: As part of Climate Week NYC, hear from Secretary John Kerry, Gonzalo Muñoz, and governments from around the Pacific Rim about how we can build and sustain momentum for climate action in the lead-up to the U.N. climate summit (COP26) in 2021. It is more important now than ever to advance international climate action and build a sustainable future, as we confront fires and tropical cyclones devastating communities across the planet and as we face the economic and public health effects of the pandemic.

A comprehensive climate strategy will maximize ocean-based climate solutions—from eliminating emissions from the shipping industry to protecting blue carbon habitats—to complement the full suite of policies necessary to decarbonize the global economy and build resilience to the effects of climate change. During COP25, the inclusion of ocean issues in the decision text—and the recognition of the vital role they play in climate mitigation and adaptation—was one bright spot of the summit.

We must take climate action now. This includes ensuring that COP26 produces greater climate ambition overall and that ocean solutions play a key role. In the lead-up to COP26, there are a number of moments to advance ocean-climate action, including the U.N. ocean-climate dialogue in November 2020 and the ongoing submission of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Join us to hear from governments around the Pacific Rim about opportunities to build a “blue-green” future.
