STATEMENT: Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Build Back Better Act Are Winning Combination for Our Ocean

2 Minute Read

Washington, DC – The following statement was issued by Janis Searles Jones, CEO of Ocean Conservancy:

“The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the framework concepts in the Build Back Better Act are a winning combination for our ocean. Combined, these bills make historic investments to address climate change and protect our ocean. They will support large-scale programs to reduce emissions, stop new offshore oil drilling, advance clean energy technology, reduce marine debris, and provide resources to help communities and ecosystems adapt to the inevitable impacts from climate change. Congress must act now to pass this important legislation.

“Our country – and the world – is at a critical turning point. Climate change is the biggest threat facing the health and productivity of our ocean and coastal communities. As world leaders gather in Glasgow for the Conference of the Parties (COP), the United States must make clear our commitment to tackling the climate crisis and building an economy that works for everyone.  Congress must take action by passing these two bills to slow the pace of climate change and provide critical support for disadvantaged coastal communities and people.”
