Washington, DC – The following statement was issued by J.P. Brooker, Director of Ocean Conservancy’s Florida Conservation Program, in reaction to the crisis unfolding at the Piney Point phosphogypsum stack in Florida:

“The federal government must provide the necessary resources to assist with the Florida’s response to the Piney Point crisis. Ocean Conservancy calls on the EPA to specifically provide resources to assist with water quality monitoring and sampling to ensure the safety of the wildlife and communities near Tampa Bay.

“A tragedy is currently unfolding in Florida. This crisis demands an all-hands-on-deck response.”
