A Voice for our Ocean

Statement from Emily Woglom, Vice President for Conservation and Policy, on the Obama Administration’s creation of the world’s largest marine monument:

English Español Français Deutsch Italiano Português русский বঙ্গীয় 中文 日本語

“Simply put, we protect today what’s important for tomorrow. That means we all win by the Obama Administration creating the world’s largest marine monument, because protecting our ocean now is the investment that will pay dividends for generations to come. Science shows that protected areas in the ocean help rebuild fish populations, which is good for fishermen, and provide habitat for many unique ocean animals, including whales, sharks, tuna and corals. Expanding the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument builds on what President George W Bush started just before he left office; protecting the ocean and the people and livelihoods that depend on it is a truly bipartisan effort.”

Ocean Conservancy educates and empowers citizens to take action on behalf of the ocean. From the Arctic to the Gulf of Mexico to the halls of Congress, Ocean Conservancy brings people together to find solutions for our water planet. Informed by science, our work guides policy and engages people in protecting the ocean and its wildlife for future generations.
