STATEMENT: We need offshore wind to achieve a clean energy future and protect our ocean

English Español Français Deutsch Italiano Português русский বঙ্গীয় 中文 日本語

Washington, D.C. – Anna Marie-Laura, Senior Director of Climate Policy at Ocean Conservancy, released the following statement in response to the Biden Administration’s proposal for the first-ever Gulf of Mexico offshore wind lease sale:

“Climate change is the biggest threat facing our ocean. We’re excited to see the Biden Administration’s offshore wind energy lease announcement in the Gulf of Mexico as well as the expansion of the federal-state partnership because the current rate of renewable energy development isn’t happening quickly enough to reach our climate goals. Offshore wind has incredible potential to help close the gap while also supporting coastal economies, but it must be done in a way that protects people and the planet. A rapid, responsible and just transition to a clean ocean energy future is within reason and reach to protect the ocean from the worsening impacts of climate change.”
